Hear the Whistle Blow! Art of the Railway

27 Sep 2019 - 07 Dec 2019

Curated by the Museum over the past 20 months, Hear the Whistle Blow! will feature original art showing the diverse aspects of railroad subject matter as seen over the decades thru the artist’ creative eye.  The exhibit runs September 27 thru December 7, 2019 and is part of the celebration of the Hockaday’s 50th year.

Opening reception is on Thursday, September 6, 2019, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Comprised of more than 40 works from nationally collected living and deceased artists, private collections and museums, images shown will span from nostalgic to contemporary, illustrating a remarkable collision of art with the industrial revolution.  From the early steam era to today’s highly technical railroading, artists have been captivated by the dynamics of railroads for over 170 years.  Adding to the viewer experience will be select displays of historic railroad artifacts related to the art.

With its mission to preserve and display the art of Glacier National Park and the region, it is fitting that the Hockaday host this special exhibit.  Adding to this appropriateness is the history of Glacier Park’s promotion and development by the Great Northern Railway.

Hear the Whistle Blow! is made possible thru the generosity of sponsoring partners and individual donations.  For public enrichment during the exhibit, special presentations and educational opportunities will available.  Co-Guest Curators of the exhibit are artists Rob Akey and Jack Dykstra.
