Children of all ages and their families are welcome to participate in the ‘hands-on’ activities and exhibits in our interactive Children’s Discovery Gallery space!

January 2024 – Present:  Textures

Explore both visual and physical textures in art. ‘Texture’ describes how something feels, or how it looks like something feels. Use hands-on activities to guess different textures, trying drawing your own, and learning ways to describe texture.

Past Exhibits

May 2023-January 2024: Native Beadwork

Exhibit highlighting beadwork traditions of Native groups in North America. This exhibit discusses the different techniques and styles of beadwork. Visitors can find related Salish & Kootenai beadwork in our Crown of the Continent Gallery,  on loan from Three Chiefs Cultural Center.

January-February 2023: Quilting Focus
Exhibit featuring quilts and the history of fiber / fabric arts. 
July 2022-January 2023: Glacier National Park Animals 
Interactive exhibit for kids featuring the shapes, textures, and colors of GNP animals. Furs and pelts on display from the Forest Service.
April – July 2022: Weaving Focus

In combination with our upstairs exhibit, Joan Renee: Tapestries for the Body and Wall, children can learn about weaving, tapestries, and other forms of fiber art in the discovery gallery. Visitors can use a weaving loom to learn and practice basic weaving patterns. 

Winter 2021- March 2022: Blackfeet Lodges and Tipi Designs

Come investigate our children’s size tipi and learn about the history and origin of Blackfeet painted lodges stories and designs!
