Ways to Give

Endowment Fund

Help the Hockaday Museum of Art continue to grow our endowment funds to ensure the museum can serve our community for the the next 50 years!

What is an endowment fund?
An endowment fund is a fund held in perpetuity for charitable benefit. As the Fund grows, returns are used to support the designated beneficiary organization ( the Hockday). Permanently endowed funds allow donors to achieve their philanthropic goals and non-profits like the Hockaday receives stable income to support our efforts in perpetuity.

We have a State Fund with the Montana Community Foundation as well as a local fund with the Whitefish Community Foundation. For more information on our endowment funds and to give to the Hockaday through these two foundations, please contact our fund advisors at:
Montana Community Foundation: info@mtcf.org or 406.443.8313
Whitefish Community Foundation: contact@whitefishcommunityfoundation.org or 406.863.1781

The Hockaday Museum of Art is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law. Federal Tax ID: 81-0303038

Alternately, you may mail your donation to:

The Hockaday has specific funds for your giving consideration:

  • The Annual Fund provides essential funding for exhibits, program services, and special projects.
  • The Art Acquisition Fund supports the purchase of new works for the Permanent Collection
  • The Ed Bailey Scholarship Fund helps make art education accessible to students in need of financial assistance.
  • The Charles Hash, Mark Norley, and Donald Baughman Memorial Funds have been established in memory of  beloved Hockaday Museum Patrons to continue exhibition and education programs.
  • Dr. Van Kirke and Helen Nelson Fund in honor of these beloved museum patrons to support the Hockaday Museum of Art Exhibition and Education Programs.

Your general donation or unrestricted gift will be applied to the Hockaday’s operations including educational services, exhibitions programs and go a long way in supporting the important work the Museum does for the community.

Gifts of Art for our Permanent Collection

Consider giving your beloved artworks as a donation to the Hockaday Museum of Art’s growing permanent collection  to care for and ensure future generations can experience and treasure important works of art. Over the last 55 years, The Hockaday Museum of Art has grown our permanent collection to over 2,500 original artworks and historic artifacts from acclaimed regional and international artists.

We have a Collections Committee that reviews and votes on all donations before acceptance into the collection.  Gifts of art are considered tax deductible charitable donations and are fully deductible at the fair market value when you donate to a 501 C 3 charitable arts organization. Works can also be donated as unrestricted gifts for future museum fundraiser sales to help support Hockaday programs, upon approval by the Executive Director and  Collections Committee.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Our policies and procedures regarding in-kind and artwork donations are much different than a thrift store or other charity. Potential artwork donations cannot be dropped off without a scheduled appointment with the Executive Director for review, and once in the temporary custody of the museum , final acceptance of artwork goes through a formal committee review and vote. Front desk staff cannot evaluate or receive any in-kind or artwork donation without Executive Director present, or unless prior written approval and authorization from the Director has been received. You will be asked to make an appointment and cannot leave the art at the museum.

For more information on donating work and to schedule an appointment with the Director, please contact museumassistant@hockadaymuseum.com or 406.755.5268 x222.

Planned Giving

Share your legacy and love of arts and culture with future generations with estate giving! There are many ways to do this including:

  • a bequest provision in your will
  • Hockaday as a beneficiary of your retirement plan or life insurance policy

And if you are looking for a way to supplement your income, with gifts that support both HMA and pay you or your beneficiaries, consider Charitable gift annuity or charitable remainder trust

All those who have established a planned gift are recognized with membership in HMA’s Friends of the Hockaday Patron Group, as well as a Director’s Circle membership.
