Watch Plein Air Glacier artists painting on site! Artists will explain technique, demonstrate their process and painting style, and answer questions from hike participants.
Tuesday, August 27, 3pm: Artist Hike with Wanda Mumm, meets at Sun Point
Wednesday, August 28, 4pm: Artist Hike with Rob Akey, meets at Lake McDonald Lodge area – NOTE: Time was changed from 3pm to 4pm to accomodate GNP reservation system.
Both hikes are short walks around the starting point. For questions of accessibility, please call (406)-755-5268. Participants must RSVP to education@hockadaymuseum.com to participate in these painting demonstrations. Please note: Sun Point can be accessed without vehicle reservation by entering through the East side of Glacier National Park. Lake McDonald Lodge can be accessed without vehicle reservation by entering at Apgar Village and taking a shuttle to the lodge. Vehicle reservations for accessing Going to the Sun Road will also be available at 7:00pm the evening before you would like to enter the park at recreation.gov. The Hockaday is not responsible for acquiring vehicle reservation passes for participants of these free artist hikes.
Come paint in beautiful Northwest Montana and Glacier National Park! Renowned artists from across the country travel to participate in the Hockaday’s annual Plein Air Glacier: Paint Out to paint en plein air (outdoors) in Glacier National Park, the Swan and Flathead Valleys. Following the paint out, participating artists’ paintings are included in a museum exhibition and online sale as a fundraiser for the artists and the Hockaday.
