‘Resilience: An Exhibition of Strength and Reverence‘ is hosted by the Creative Indigenous Collective (CIC), formed to represent the education and promotion of Indigenous creativity and art. The CIC encourages both traditional art forms as well as modern works, with genres including but not limited to visual arts, music, culinary arts, spoken word, creative writing, dance, performance art, fashion, design, oral history and storytelling, technology, and environmental art.
Resilience is an important facet within virtually every Indigenous culture across the world – in the face of adversity, Indigenous peoples’ collective strength of character and belief enables them to live another day. CIC looks to educate and share unique perspectives of this resilience with the world. ‘Resilience: An Exhibition of Strength and Reverence’ focuses on the beauty and resilience of which Indigenous cultures have consistently implemented simply to continue existing.
The exhibition includes work from artists Holly Young, Gina Still Smoking, Louis Still Smoking, John I. Pepion, Ben Pease, Lauren Monroe Jr., and Robert Martinez.
This exhibit includes artist-led exhibit tours taking place Friday, April 13, 2018 from 10am-3pm, as well as an artists panel discussion on Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 11am-12:30pm. This exhibit is sponsored by Social Justice Montana of the Montana Community Foundation.
