The Hockaday regularly presents artist talks, presentations, and panel discussions throughout the year, usually related to current exhibitions.  Artist talks are typically free for members and sponsors, or a suggested donation of $10 for the general public.

Stop-motion Animation Presentation & Demo
with The Sisters Bloom Animation Studio Founder Melissa Bloom

Want to learn more about the fascinating world of stop-motion animation that combines, art, cinematography, film, photography, technology, and more? Join us for a special presentation and demo with The Sisters Bloom, an unique eco-conscious stop-motion animation studio located in Kalispell, MT. Founder and artist, writer, and director Melissa Bloom shares her background and sustainable approaches to artmaking and film. Visitors can also tour our current exhibition Landscapes Reimagined featuring a video installation and animation by artist Rachel Rose, on loan from Art Bridges.

Past Talks

Join us for an artist talk by Glacier National Park’s July 2024 Artist in Residence Brenda Zlamany for her presentation “Climate in America – Glacier National Park Portraits.”
Thursday, July 25, 5-7pm – Free to the public
 
Event Highlights:
● Exhibition: View 26 watercolor portraits painted during Zlamany’s residency, each representing one of Glacier National Park’s remaining glaciers. Subjects include park staff, Native community members, scientists, and visitors.
● Additional Artwork: Landscape paintings capturing the natural beauty of Glacier National Park.
● Photographs: Images of portrait subjects posing with their finished artwork, with potential video and audio components.
● Artist Talk and Slide Presentation: Zlamany will discuss her decade-long Itinerant Portraitist project, the Climate in America series, her unique camera lucida portraiture process, and the critical role of humanity as environmental stewards.
● Celebration: This event will also honor the portrait subjects, acknowledging their participation and contributions to the project.

This event his hosted by Glacier National Park.

About the Exhibition:

Larry Blackwood: Synthesizing Icons—Sponsored by Supporting Local Artists & Musicians (SLAM), and travelled by MAGDA (Montana Art Gallery Directors Association), this exhibition is comprised of 19 composite contemporary photographs by Bozeman based artist Larry Blackwood inspired by “waking dreams” which occur during periods when one is neither fully awake nor fully asleep.
